For Immediate Release
Alexandria, VA (April 12, 2019) – The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) honored two long-time members for their exceptional contributions to the logistics industry and TIA during the 2019 TIA Capital Ideas Conference and Exhibition, held April 10-13, 2019 in Orlando, FL.
The 2019 Heritage Award was presented to Wayne J. Carucci, President, Gateway Logistics, Inc. Established in 1997, the Heritage Award honors exceptional industry leaders for their service, leadership and long-standing support of TIA, its members, and the entire third-party logistics industry.
TIA President and CEO Robert Voltmann said, “Anyone who has met Wayne can’t help but be inspired by him. Wayne is truly one-of-a-kind, and is an example of someone who entered the 3PL industry from the ground up and built a successful business. I am excited that TIA is able to recognize his contributions to TIA with the Heritage Award.” Voltmann continued, “Wayne built Gateway from the ground up. He has shared his triumphs, setbacks, and even tragedies. He is an inspiration to all who meet him, Wayne truly embodies the spirit of the TIA Heritage Award.
Additionally, TIA presented the 2019 3PL Samaritan Award to Leonard’s Express, Inc. The 3PL Samaritan Award recognizes a TIA member for exceptional service and assistance to others in need. Leonard’s Express, headquartered in Farmington, NY, received the 2019 3PL Samaritan Award because of the numerous philanthropic contributions. For example, in North Carolina Leonard’s Express employees transported food and other goods in the aftermath of a hurricane. Additionally, Leonard’s Express and its employees have raised money for the Breast Cancer Coalition of Greater Rochester and the Parkinson’s Foundation, donated toys to area children’s hospitals, and donated Thanksgiving meals to families in need.
“Whether it’s providing logistics assistance to those affected by hurricanes, raising money and awareness of those afflicted with breast cancer or Parkinson’s disease, or ensuring families enjoy a Thanksgiving meal, Leonard’s Express exemplifies a TIA member who is actively engaged in the betterment of their community. I am proud to call them a TIA member,” said Voltmann. “The hardest job we have each year is to pick one member to be recognized with the TIA 3PL Samaritan Award. The selectee is not the ‘winner’, but a representative of the amazing ways TIA members gives back to their communities. We are all winners thanks to their generosity,” said Voltmann.
As recipients of the Samaritan Award, Leonard’s designated Parkinson’s Foundation Greater Rochester, which provides support for those with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers, as its charity of choice to receive the funds raised by the annual TIA Foundation Charity Fun Run at the 2019 TIA Conference & Exhibition.
