October 2, 2019 – Alexandria, VA – Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) today launched a dedicated alcohol and substance use hotline for its 1,800 members and their collective 140,000 employees. The helpline, 1-833-TIA-SPPT, provides support from trained specialists with evidence-based information, referrals to local resources, and advice on how to address addiction for both employee, and managers.
Research shows that of the 21 million Americans with an untreated substance use disorder, 75 percent are in the workforce.
“Too many people don’t know where to turn for help,” according to Robert Voltmann, President and CEO of the Transportation Intermediaries Association.“TIA’s new initiative offers a valuable tool to help employers and employees facing addiction issues. We are very excited to be able to offer this member benefit.”
Addiction Policy Forum founder Jessica Hulsey Nickel adds, “Employers have the potential to play a critical role in addressing substance use disorders in our society, and we applaud TIA for working to meet the needs of their members across the nation. This dedicated line, 1-833-TIA-SPPT, will be an important step to providing immediate help to those in need.”
The helpline is a new component of the Employer Initiative launched earlier this year in partnership with the Addiction Policy Forum.
